Spirit filled families II

Romans 10.17
So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ.

Ephesians 5.15-33

Colossians 3.16-19
Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being] as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him. 18 Wives, be [e]subject to your husbands [out of respect for their position as protector,
and their accountability to God], as is proper and [f]fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives [with an affectionate, sympathetic, selfless love that always seeks the best for
them] and do not be embittered or resentful toward them [because of the responsibilities of marriage].

1 Peter 3.7

  • God does not want us to depend on wine (natural approach) but rather on the Spirit (God’s approach) to solve issues in our lives.

John 4.10
Jesus answered her, “If you knew [about] God’s gift [of eternal life], and who it is who says, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him [instead], and He would have given you living
water (eternal life).”

John 7.37
Now on the last and most important day of the feast, Jesus stood and called out [in a loud voice], “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink!

Marriage is deeply Spiritual.

  • The responsibility of each party in marriage is not their natural tilt. It is not natural for men, to love their wives. Submission is not a natural default of the woman.

Gen 3.16
To the woman, He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth; In pain, you will give birth to children; Yet your desire and longing will be for your husband, And he will rule [with authority] over you and be responsible for you.” It takes the infilling of the Holy Spirit to fulfill their responsibilities.

  • The instruction of God to each party is what will meet the need of each party. Women need love, men need respect and submission. It is more than a want/ desire. It is a need.
  • God’s instruction to each person is not predicated on the fulfillment of the role of the other party.

Woman submit regardless of whether he loves or not. Man, love your wives whether she submits or not. You fulfill your role in obedience to God.

  • God does not expect us to carry out these responsibilities on our own
  • In order to enjoy family success, you must be ready to follow God’s order.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you because I am humble and gentle at
heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Instruction is what protects you from destruction.

Some strengths women will need to submit

1. The woman’s ability to speak.
Women speak more words than men per day.
Every man, therefore, needs to lean the ability to listen.
Men talk for a report, women talk for rapport.

2. Women have charm, beauty, aesthetics.
Men were made from earth, women from men (refined material)

3. Intuition

4. Persistence

Luke 18:1-3
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. 2 “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about
people. 3 A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’

5. Women have a better capacity to deal with pressure more than men.
Men implode, women explode…express the pressure.

6. Women have the capacity to multi-task.

Men are the head because God made it so.

Implications of submission.

  • it should be unconditional.

1 Pet 3.1
In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be
won over.

  • it is sacrifice. See him as the head even when he is ahead.

Benefits of submission

  1. Makes you attractive
  2. It gives the man a sense of responsibilitytowards you.
  3. It gives your man a sense of security.
  4. It deepens your relationship with christ.
  5. It encourages men to love their wives more.

  • Headship is about leadership, not about bossing.
  • The man being the head does not make the woman the tail!
  • The man is supposed to be the the foundation of the family.
    Genesis 2
  • Man must have a clear sense of his image/ purpose.
  • He must value/treasure the presence of God.
  • He must be a man on assignment.
  • He must be a protector.
  • He must be worded- be able to recieve and communicate the word of God.

Implications of this love.

  1. It is unconditional
  2.  It is sacrificial
  3. It is nourishing, cultivating
  4. This love means to be present for the family.

1 Samuel 30.2
Three days later, when David and his men arrived home at their town of Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and Ziklag; they had crushed Ziklag and burned it to the ground. 2 They had carried off the women and children and everyone else but without killing anyone.

The absence of the men allows the enemy to hold the wives and children captive like David and his men in Ziklag.
